After the Yankees purchased Ruth, they issued a press release announcing the purchase of 10 acres of property in the west Bronx and their intentions on building a new stadium. In 284 working days, Yankee Stadium opened for its first game on April 18, 1923 vs the Red Sox. The stadium would be known as "The House That Ruth Built". Over 74,000 fans packed Yankee Stadium for their first look. Also 30 championship fights were fought at The Stadium.
